EXTREME ADVANCED BEGINNER: Projects & Preoccupations

EXTREME ADVANCED BEGINNER: A person who is competent in pursuing an activity, and will go all out, but is not considered an expert. I identify myself as an extreme advanced beginner. The idea came from living in a community where many people are "world class" at what they do. Since I'm only proficient, albeit at a variety of things, I started using the term to describe myself. Enjoy these musings about my projects and preoccupations.

Finished!

The tables are finally finished! Solid construction makes them perfect for the middle school art classroom. I love their weight; they don't giggle, rock or shift.

The shelves create an area to store working folders and portfolios. During class students can place their binders on the shelf keeping the work surface clear.

#1 CLASSROOM ART TABLES

The dream. Creating an art classroom from scratch. 3 island sinks. Deep drawers. Natural lighting. The scene framed from the south with a wall of windows filtered through giant ponderosa pines. What about furniture? I decided to build 4 large tables that would accommodate 6 students each. Designed for standing or sitting on high stools. I thought to build them out of wood, but having taken a welding class 2 years ago, I seemed destined to fashion them from steel. See Blog Posts September and October 2011 - Art Tables.
